Australian Floorball Open 2009 Canberra
The Australian Floorball Open 2009 held in the ACT Canberra between 9-12 July at the Southern Cross Stadium Tuggeranong was a success. The following 16 teams were represented:
MENS: Northern Beaches Stingrays - Bondi Raptors - NSW Glebe - NSW Vikings FC - Vic Sydney Blue Tongues - Pakenham - Pirates - Newcastle Cobras - Kookas - Southern Swingers - Newcastle Cobras 2 - ACT
WOMENS: Kookas - Melbourne Huskies - NSW Waratahs - Victoria Venom
The Kookaburras took out the mens grandfinal with a 3-1 victory over the Vikings from Victoria. Alex Peck of the Kookaburras was awarded the MVP trophy. The Highest Points Scorer for the mens was Thomas Isaksson.
The womens grandfinal was ultimately won by the Waratahs from New South Wales who defeated the Venom from Victoria where the end score was 4-3. Linda Hedensjo was the MVP and Highest Points Scorer.
Over 300 spectators attended the finals matches with many media outlets covering the action. AFO 2010 is planned for Sydney with an even larger turn out expected the venue is yet to be decided.
